If you’ve written a memoir manuscript and you’re now wanting to get it published, the great news is that there’s many traditional publishers who accept un-agented submissions. So, if you don’t want to get a literary agent before you start sending your work out there, you’re in luck!
Here’s five really good Australian Publishers I’ve either worked with directly or known memoir authors who have, who are accepting un-agented submissions for memoir. These are each reputable quality publishers, and traditional publishers too.
There’s hundreds of publishers across the world who accept unagented submissions, but I’ve kept this list to Australian publishers, for the Australian writers looking to get a memoir published.
Are you looking to get a book-length memoir or narrative nonfiction published?
The difference between a personal story that gets published and a historical document that will only be interesting to your family is often all about the story hook and the way you’ve structured the story. Whether you’ve completed your memoir manuscript or not, be sure to watch my masterclass on how to write a publication-standard memoir in months right here, to learn exactly what publishers are looking for in memoir that sells, and how to write and revise your memoir to publication standard. As a twice-published memoir author (one of my publishers is listed below!) I teach from my own experience.
And, because I get asked this a lot from readers and writers across the world: many of these Publishers only publish writers who reside in the territory. So, if you’re in Canada, check the submission guidelines before submitting to a large US Publisher, for example. Many Publishers only take submissions from residents of that particularly country where they are based.

Hi Leane
I’ve recently finished writing a book called “True North: the life transforming power of purpose”. Starting in the early 1980s, my wife and I brought personal development programs to Australia – I think we were the first to do so! The courses we offered exploded into success, and in the 1980s alone approximately 45,000 people went to our courses. We eventually expanded our programs into corporations and government agencies, where hundreds of thousands of people attended our leadership development and organizational culture building programs. All of this work, which improved the lives of hundreds of thousands of people during my lifetime ultimately came from discovering my life purpose shortly after I started meditating in 1968. This purpose – my True North – has motivated and shaped my life to create an entirely new career for my wife, myself, and many other people. My life has been deeply fulfilling, and I wrote this book to inspire and enable others to discover and fulfill their life purpose. Yet the whole book is built around my life story, beginning with the very traumatic childhood and adolescence, the effects of which I had to overcome, and which eventually led to creating an entirely new type of work to help people overcome their mental and emotional blocks to the growth, enabling them to grow and flourish.. I really need help with publishing, and will be happy to pay for that help. I can send you the introduction to True North, which I think will give you a very good feeling for the quality of the writing, it’s inspirational value, and its ability to entertain! Please let me know if you’re interested, and if you are I’ll send you that introduction. All the best, Walter Bellin.
